The single holds one 30 litre bucket and fits a gap about 40 cm wide. The cabinet with a drawer is the same idea, 10 cm taller, with a drawer on top for bin liners. The double holds two 30 litre buckets, for rubbish and recycling side by side, and is 72 cm wide. If you are not sure, send us the measurements of the space and we will tell you which fits.

About 30 cm (12 in) clear in front of the cabinet. The door is hinged at the bottom and tips forward until a steel stay stops it. Leave that space free of a rug edge or a table leg.

No. You open the door by the finger slot at the top, and it drops forward under its own weight onto the stay. You push it shut by hand. There are no springs, motors or batteries.

Yes. Each cabinet comes with a grey polypropylene 30 litre bucket (two in the double), and the compost box and the bathroom bin come with their pails. The open paper bin and the sorting crates have no liner.

Any bag made for a 30 litre (8 US gallon) bin fits the cabinet buckets. Kitchen bags made for 13 gallon bins also fit but leave more bag to fold over the rim.

The three cabinets arrive flat-packed with bolts and a hex key: about 30 minutes for the single, 40 for the cabinet with a drawer and 50 for the double. The compost box, the bathroom bin, the paper bin and the crates arrive assembled.

Natural is clear matt oil; the ash stays pale and honey-coloured. Black is a black stain under the same oil, and the grain still shows. Both are the same price. More on the Care & Materials page.

Into the pail or a lined bucket, yes. Not onto the wood. The wood is oiled, not sealed, so keep liquids inside the bucket and wipe any spill straight away. Empty the compost box every day or two; it has no filter or seal.

Yes, within reason: about 10 kg (22 lb) on the single and the drawer cabinet, and about 15 kg (33 lb) on the double. Do not sit or stand on it.
