About us
Furniture for the thing nobody wants to look at.
Navelrix makes waste and recycling furniture in solid ash: three tilt-out bin cabinets, three small bins and a set of stacking sorting crates. Seven pieces, each in a natural or a black finish. Everything opens by hand, and every bucket and pail lifts out to be washed.

Why wood
Most bins are made to be noticed: brushed metal, a pedal, a lid that opens on its own. We wanted the opposite. A bin cabinet in solid ash looks like any other piece of furniture in a kitchen or a utility room, and the top is a usable surface rather than a lid you cannot put anything on.
Wood also changes what you can make. A tilt-out door, a drawer for liners, a lidded box for a bathroom and an open crate for bottles are all simple wooden things. None of them needs a battery, a motor or a spring, so there is very little that can break.
Who makes it
We do not own a workshop. We draw each piece, choose the timber, the finish, the hardware and the buckets, and a furniture workshop makes every piece to those drawings. We say so because it matters when you decide who to buy from: the design, and the responsibility for what arrives, are ours.
The Care & Materials page sets out what each piece is made of, its exact size and how to look after it.

What we will not claim
- That the wood is waterproof. It is oiled, not sealed. Use a liner, and wipe spills before they sit.
- That the cabinets close softly. There is no soft-close: the door drops forward onto a steel stay, and you push it shut by hand.
- That two pieces will match grain for grain. Ash is a natural material, and the colour and pattern of the grain vary from board to board.
- That the cabinets arrive ready to use. They come flat-packed and take 30 to 50 minutes to put together.
